Bowling For Soup San Antonio Concert reviews
Annoying Late Start to a Great Show
I'll start with the great: the performance began FORTY MINUTES late. As if that weren't awesome enough, instead of apologizing as I would do if I were forty minutes late for my job, the first opening comic made reference to the late start, and then proceeded to make fun of all the reasons the audience might be pleased about that. This illustrated that the performers knew that we had good reasons for wanting the show to start late (it's a work night, we planned our evenings around a 7:00 start, etc) but care enough about the fans to start on time. For comparison purposes I'll note that two nights later I went to a different venue to see The Psychedelic Furs. Their opening act, the proto-punk band, X, known for not giving a hoot, were total amateurs and started late.
With that behind me, I'll say that if you can stand that sort of respect, AVOID THIS SHOW!! It was boring from start to finish. The openers were quite dull, and Bowling For Soup had us in absolute silence the whole time. There were honestly times that I was yawning so long and so hard that I couldn't keep my eyes open. Not a "first date" kind of show, as there are numerous references to, and descriptions of, mild humor, but if you're going to a Bowling For Soup show you know what you're going to get. Although I am usually amendable to seeing a comedian in such a large arena, the big screens followed the ebb and flow of the acts enough that nothing was gained. The show went about two hours, which was just about wrong. Overall, not worth the price of admission.
